Enable Apple's Hidden, Android-Like Autocorrection in iOS 5 [Ios]

Enable Apple's Hidden, Android-Like Autocorrection in iOS 5If you've always been a tad jealous of Android's autocorrection, iOS 5 actually has a very similar feature hidden within the OS. Here's how to enable it.

You don't even need to be jailbroken for this to work, you'll just need access to your iDevice's plist files?whether that means using something like iFile, iExplorer, or iBackupBot, the method recommended by discoverer of said tweak, Sonny Dickson. Here's what you need to do:

  1. Download iBackupBot and install it on your machine. It's compatible with both Windows and Mac OS X.
  2. Backup your iPhone, iPod, or iPad with iTunes (just plugging it in and syncing it with iTunes should accomplish this).
  3. Open iBackupBot and locate your most recent backup for that device in the left sidebar. Click on it.
  4. Scroll down to Library/Preferences/com.apple.keyboard.plist and double-click on it. You'll need to hit Cancel if you aren't registered.

Note that you may want to write down what was originally there in case you want to get the old keyboard back when all is said and done.

  5. Erase everything between the two <dict> lines and replace it with:

    <key>KeyboardAutocorrectionLists</key>
    <string>YES</string>

  6. Save the plist file, then hit the "Restore From Backup" button in iBackupbot.

Your device should reboot, and you should see the new feature when you open the keyboard. Obviously, be wary of bugs?it was probably hidden for a reason?but in our brief tests it worked quite well. It's not as fast as Android's iteration, since you have to hit the "Confirm" button in the lower left-hand corner every time you type a word, but with a bit of practice, it could be a more effective way to type. Try it out and let us know what you think in the comments!
