Now that we have reached the Conference Championship Round, only four teams remain in the running for the 2013 Super Bowl! We will take a look back at all the action that took place last weekend, and look forward to the 2013 NFL playoff schedule after Divisional weekend.
In the American Football Conference, winning 11 consecutive games apparently didn?t build enough positive momentum for Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos. Taking on a team motivated by Ray Lewis? ?final? postseason, the Ravens stunned the conference?s top seed in front of their home crowd.
It took them two overtime sessions, but in the end they got the job done, eliminating Manning and the Broncos, 38-35. In the other AFC Divisional game, the New England Patriots delivered yet again, thrashing the Houston Texans, 41-28.
Despite celebrating the victory, Tom Brady and the Pats will be without the services of Rob Gronkowski for the remainder of the playoffs, as ?The Gronk? re-aggravated his forearm injury.
In the National Football Conference, things went according to plan, as the top two seeds will meet in the championship game. First, the Atlanta Falcons escaped a furious 20-point comeback effort by the Seattle Seahawks advancing to the next round on a final second field goal, 30-28.
On the other NFC Divisional game, the Green Bay Packers were looking to avenge the first loss of the regular season when they took on the San Francisco 49ers. After a strong first quarter by the Packers and a shaky one by the Niners, the home defense settled down and so did their rookie quarterback.
Outscoring Green Bay 38-17 in the final three quarters, Jim Harbaugh & Co. punched their ticket to the NFC Championship Game to take on the top-seeded Falcons. The Niners had nine more first downs than the Packers (29-20) along with 227 more yards of total offense.
Now that we?ve taken a brief look back, it?s time to look forward to the future. As mentioned above, the AFC Championship Game will take place at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Mass, as the Pats will host the Ravens. Meanwhile in the NFC, the Niners will hot the road Georgia Dome bound, as they take on the hosting Falcons with a shot to advance to the Super Bowl at stake.
