by William D'Angelo, posted 5 hours ago / 654 Views

Sony Mobile is going under a restructure by moving its headquarter from Sweden, to Tokyo. Sony Mobile will be laying off 15 percent or 1,000 employees due to the move. 650 of the layoffs will come from workers at the Lund, Sweden plant, while the remaining are mostly from Swedish consultants and support staff.

"Sony has identified the mobile business as one of its core businesses and the Xperia smartphone portfolio continues to gain momentum with customers and consumers worldwide," Sony Mobile CEO Kunimasa Suzuki.

"We are accelerating the integration and convergence with the wider Sony group to continue enhancing our offerings, and a more focused and efficient operational structure will help to reduce Sony Mobile's costs, enhance time to market efficiency and bring the business back to a place of strength."
