slideshowScotland Cancer Treatment Center and Duke University School of Medicine recently held its fourth annual Cancer Symposium at the WR Dulin Conference Center.
Event speakers provided information on current cancer treatment as well as new and developing areas of cancer care.
?This event brings together the clinicians from Duke and the clinicians from the community to ensure patient care is optimized,? said Dr. Linda Sutton, medical director of the Duke Oncology Network and Associate Professor of Medicine at Duke University Health System.?We want the local clinicians to be aware of the many services and the medical expertise available to them and to their cancer patients. Our goal also is to make the clinicians aware of cancer treatment as it changes and the excellent services offered at Scotland Cancer Treatment Center.?
Titled ?Managing the Health of Your Patients with Cancer? the symposium offered an educational activity specifically designed for primary care providers, surgeons, pathologists, radiologists, mid-level providers, nurses, and others who care for patients with cancer.
About 50 people attended the event on Friday.
Dr. Kathleen Havlin, associate professor of medicine at Duke University Health System, is one of Scotland Cancer Treatment Center?s medical oncologists and a breast cancer specialist.
?This event builds on the services available in the community,? she said. ?By hosting this annual event we help to provide quality care to the patients in this community.?
In addition to the presentations by these physicians, during the four-hour symposium the participants had the opportunity to interact with and question the distinguished guest panel.
The symposium was supported by the following exhibiting organizations: Amgen, Celgene, Genentech, Genoptix, and Norvartis.
